Over 30 years ago, a group of theater-lovers saw the need for an organized group of players who would bring quality live theater to the rural community of Lake County. The Lakeport Community Players was born, and the Lake County Repertory Theatre quickly followed suit.
Lake County Players put on plays in the northern part of the county while Lake County Repertory Theater performed in the southern region. Both were non-profit community theater groups who performed at various venues, since neither had a theater home. After 20 years of struggling to schedule plays around each other and share actors and tech support crew, the two groups joined forces and became the Lake County Theatre Company (LCTC) in 2008.
Since its inception a decade ago, LCTC has put on over 45 productions involving several hundred actors and crew of all ages and abilities. Our youngest member was five years old and our oldest was 93. Over the years we’ve had several people with special needs participate in productions. We always strive to open our doors to anyone interested in bringing the performing arts to Lake County. Like its predecessors, LCTC does not have a theater home of its own; we have performed in nearly a dozen different locations.
Over the past five years, our focus has been raising funds to one day build a permanent theater home. Through various fundraisers including Adult Prom, the Crappy Christmas Carolers, the Mr. Lake County Pageant, and more, we are steadily moving toward our dream for a theater while balancing our performance schedule and community outreach.
The Theatre Company puts on several shows a year at the Soper Reese Theatre, The Little Theatre at the Lake County Fairgrounds, or the School House Museum in Lower Lake. Check their website for the latest show information and tickets.
